Who We Are

Recent corporate governance scandals in many parts of the world, and the resultant financial crisis and more intense shareholders and stakeholders’ activism as well as globalization has made corporate governance global best standards and practices imperative to the survival and efficiency of firms and national economies, particularly those in development and transition. The formation of the Institute of Corporate Governance Nigeria (ICGN) was, therefore, a timely response to these needs.

The Institute of Corporate Governance Nigeria (ICGN) is a globally recognized and a strategic national professional body in Nigeria. ICGN is established and well positioned to promote and deliver best in class corporate governance and business ethics standards and practices in Nigeria, Africa and the rest of the world. The Institute of Corporate Governance Nigeria was formed by a team of experts and practitioners in corporate governance, risk management, compliance, regulation and related fields. Members of ICGN are drawn from diverse industries – Banking and Financial Services, Telecom, Engineering and Construction, International Trade, Manufacturing, Oil and Gas, State Owned Entreprises and Industry Regulators.

The Institute of Corporate Governance Nigeria (ICGN) is registered under the CAM Act CAP 59 of 1990 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to amongst other things promote corporate governance global best standards and practices both in public and private sectors, through training, certification, research, knowledge sharing and related activities. In achieving these objectives, our approach is inter-disciplinary one.

ICGN is established under the Companies and Allied Matters (CAM) Act CAP 59 of 1990 of Federal Republic of Nigeria as approved by:
  • Federal Ministry of Justice (FMJ), Nigeria.
  • Federal Ministry of Education, (FME), Nigeria.
  • Corporate Affairs Commission, (CAC), Nigeria.
